Your dental needs change as you get older. At Ti Dental located in the Chinook Professional Building within CF Chinook Mall, we’re happy to help patients of all ages, including children aged 2 to 16. Through regular dental appointments and the establishment of good oral hygiene at home, we can help ensure your child’s smile remains healthy and strong.
Oral health and prevention are important for patients of all ages. By maintaining a regular schedule with your child’s dentist, you’re being proactive; giving the dentist the opportunity to spot signs of trouble before they cause cavities or other dental issues.
Parents are often surprised by the level of care and maintenance that baby teeth they require. A common question is “If the tooth is going to fall out anyway, why bother to fix it?”
The reality is that several of your child’s juvenile teeth will not be replaced by adult teeth for about 12 years. Letting a tooth decay for that long can cause serious health problems, let alone the pain and sensitivity of living with a cavity. If a cavity isn’t treated in time, the tooth may have to be pulled, which could cause crowding and alignment issues in the future.
There’s also your child’s confidence to think about. It can be hard to feel good about your smile with a missing or broken tooth. Taking proper care of your child’s teeth means they can smile with confidence.
The dentist will examine your child’s mouth, looking at any teeth that have already erupted, examining their jaw and gum health, and just generally looking for anything irregular.
Our team will review the best way to brush your child’s teeth and make recommendations for maintaining their oral health. This is an excellent time to ask any questions you might have about your child’s dental care.
Once all of your child’s baby teeth have come in, their dental visits will change somewhat. We’ll examine each tooth, perform a dental cleaning, and let you know about any potential issues we see. We may also take small dental x-rays and administer a fluoride treatment.
Your child may be a candidate for dental sealants. A dental sealant is a clear “plastic” barrier that is brushed onto the biting surfaces of the molar teeth. Its purpose is to help prevent plaque from sticking to the deep grooves of these teeth.
Ti Dental is easily found in suite 708 of the Chinook Centre Professional Tower. We hope to see you in our office soon.
